We usually share cars and to do so we first get together in the cul-de-sac at the end of Victoria Road in Ulverston.
The group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month (excluding November and December) for the purpose of visiting gardens. Viewing the gardens, sampling tea/coffee and cakes and sharing the experience with others are all important to members of this group! We meet for car sharing in Victoria Road, Ulverston, usually between 9.15-9.45, depending on how far we are travelling, which is normally within 1 1/2 hours drive of Ulverston. Many of the gardens we visit open regularly to the public and have wider facilities including onsite cafes, but we also try and visit private gardens that open especially for our group. For private garden visits, the owners will put in a lot of work preparing the gardens and often baking cakes, so it is important that we turn up, whatever the weather. The cost varies, depending on how much each garden charges, whether refreshments are included in the cost, and the amount payable to drivers for lifts, which depends on the distance driven. Details are sent out in the Furness u3a Newsletter and in a group e-mail direct to members. Our January visit is our annual planning meeting where we plan the trips for the year ahead, followed by an optional lunch. The garden visits are organised by members of the group.
