ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP
Furness u3a membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March the following year. There are four classes of membership with different fee rates.
The rates below are for 2026-7.
Individual – for members who are full members and who receive their monthly newsletter by email (£10)
Individual With Post – for members whose newsletter is delivered by Royal Mail to their home address (£26)
Associate Reciprocal – for full members of Grange and District u3a who wish to participate in Furness u3a activities (no fee)
Associate Non-Reciprocal – for members who are full members of another u3a other than Grange and District (£5)
The reciprocal arrangement with Grange u3a means that Furness u3a members are also entitled to become Associate members of Grange
NEW MEMBERS
There are three ways to become a new member:
- You can apply online (preferred option).
- You can download the New Member Application Form and return it to our Membership Secretary (address on the form),
- You can join at the Monthly Meeting
MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
The renewal period each year runs from immediately after the AGM (and speaker) on the 2nd Tuesday in March to 30th April, a period of seven weeks. Members will receive information, usually by email, about the various options for renewing and, as soon as members have voted on the fee structure at the AGM, the amount of the membership fees for that year.
As soon as the renewal period has finished at the end of April, any member who has not renewed will have to be lapsed and will not be entitled to participate in any groups or activities with Furness u3a. There is the option to re-join, although retaining the same membership number as previously, cannot be guaranteed.
The options for renewing are:
- Online (preferred option) – using credit/debit card or PayPal, follow the link and the instructions
- In person at the AGM or the April Monthly Meeting using cash, cheque or card
- By a bank transfer – follow the instructions on the email about renewing
- By post using a cheque or cash following the instructions on the renewing email
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
If you are already a member of another u3a, you can join Furness u3a as an Associate. In Cumbria, there are 11 u3as, and those nearest to us are Grange & District u3a, Ambleside & District u3a, South Lakes u3a (Kendal).
To join as an Associate Member - please download and complete the appropriate form New Member Application Form including details of your own u3a and your current membership number in that u3a.
Other u3as may have different subject groups and Furness u3a has a reciprocal arrangement with Grange & District, whereby our members can join their u3a as a free Associate member. Their members can likewise join Furness as free Associate members. If you think some other local u3a groups might interest you, then have a look at the Links page.
