The Local History Group looks at all aspects of the past from a wide area around Cumbria and occasionally into Lancashire. The group meets on the 2nd Monday of each month from 2.15 - 4.00pm in Croftlands Community Centre in Ulverston. There is a £2 entry charge.

The Centre is large and airy; windows can be opened (and doors in summer),and there is hand sanitiser in the foyer.

In June, July and August we organise outside visits to local areas where we can share transport, and one possible visit to a further venue where a coach is required (subject to Covid at the moment). We have some excellent speakers from around the area with a wide variety of talks each month.

We are also in the process of arranging some local research by some of our own members which is in the early stages. These may be themed, as in education, transport, work, homes etc.

Some members of the Local History group went on their June outing with a nostalgic theme, travelling on the Haverthwaite steam train to Lakeside and then steamer to Bowness. Fortunately, it was a fine day with some beautiful views, including seeing many millionaires’ estates and houses. At Bowness we all went our separate ways, either shopping, visiting the Peter Rabbit "museum" or climbing up to the viewpoint above the Belsfield. It was a very successful day and a good way to wind down and chat to friends.

Our meetings finish for the summer to have outside visits, and we start again in September. New members are welcome.
