The group normally has a walk every Friday, weather permitting of course. There are typically 10 to 20 people on the walks, which are led by various members of the group and are typically 6 to 10 miles. Occasionally they are fell walks – e.g. Lingmoor, Wansfell – but generally the walks involve rather less climbing than that.
The group is coordinated by Peter & Christine Quiggin – (contact Peter Quiggin for more information). We put the various walk-leading offers that we get into our Friday Walkers Programme. And we email everyone in the group each week, giving details of that week’s walk, where to meet etc. Walks are weather-dependent, so make sure you check your mailbox on Thursday evening (and Friday morning if the weather forecast looks dodgy) for any changes or cancellation.
The normal Friday morning meeting-up point is on the dead-end part of Victoria Road in Ulverston, where there’s room to leave cars. We meet at about 9:20am, in time to arrange car-sharing and be ready to leave at 9:30 to drive to where the walk starts. Car sharing is not only good for the environment, it also reduces the number of car spaces needed where the walk starts, where parking is often quite limited.
If we’re not meeting at Victoria Road – for example we sometimes use the train for a walk from Arnside or Silverdale – then that week's email to the group gives details.
