World History

Status:Active, open to new members
Coordinator:
Group email: World History group
When: Monthly on Tuesday mornings
1st Tuesday 10am
Venue: Quaker Barn, Swarthmoor

This group is interested in all aspects of World History; political, social, economic etc. We choose a topic which usually lasts from 6 months to up to a year. During that time all members research the topic and then each give a talk or presentation on an aspect which interests them. The rest of the group listen and then discuss. This is a format which works very well. We all get to do some research but also find out a great deal from the other members.

The group is now meeting in the Quaker Barn, Meeting House Lane, Ulverston.

We meet on the first Tuesday of the month from 10:00 until 12:00.

Our current topic on the Qing Dynasty of China will end in May.

In June 2025 we will begin a new topic on "The History of Coffee". Current members will give short talks on aspects of this topic. This might be a good time to come along to see how we work.

In  September we will begin a longer topic about Germany : from The Hapsburgs to Unification.

Any new members interested in trying out this group would be most welcome.

Email Rosie Kyles , World History Group Leader for more information.
